Recent Foundation Accomplishments in Making FM a Career of Choice

The Foundation is developing resources and training materials for local volunteer efforts to reach students, teachers, guidance counselors, and parents to an exciting profession with high graduate placements and excellent starting salaries.

Recent Foundation accomplishments include:

  • New FM Internship How-To Guide (free download) and Internship Workshops
  • New Student & Parent focused FM career info website (late July 2017)
  • Student oriented PowerPoint deck for volunteer presentations in the classroom
  • Community Readiness Assessment Worksheet guiding chapters implementing GWI to identify constituencies and resources
  • FM Academic Registry cataloging FM degree programs being offered worldwide

California pilot program results to date:

  • 3-year agreement for collaboration with the state-wide community college system to start FM programs at 10 or more colleges in 2018-19 – new FM program at Chaffey College starts this fall.
  • New 2-year FM degree program at De Anza Community College. 
  • Outreach programs to college and high-school students

Dallas/Fort Worth program results to date:​

  • Rapid deployment with the DFW Chapter and key constituents including: Dallas County Community College District, Sustainable Communities Institute, Texas Workforce Commission, Economic Development agencies and significant DFW employers

Northeastern US:​

  • New network of chapters in initial stages of forming from Delaware to the Hudson Valley to support GWI
  • Continued engagement with P-Tech programs in New York City

The GWI aims to have a full suite of FM training and education opportunities in each region for all looking to enter the profession.
