Your Legacy. Your Values. The Future of Facility Management.
A planned gift to the IFMA Foundation is a powerful way to align what matters most to you with the future you want to help create. Through your thoughtful generosity, you can support the people, education, and career pathways that strengthen the facility management profession for generations to come.
Planned giving allows you to make a lasting difference while honoring your personal values, family priorities, and long-term goals. By thoughtfully directing how your assets are shared, you create a legacy that reflects your passion for the profession and your belief in the power of education, opportunity, and leadership.
Choosing the Gift That’s Right for You
There are many meaningful ways to include the IFMA Foundation in your estate or financial plans, each offering flexibility, and the opportunity to match your charitable intentions with your personal circumstances. We encourage you to work with your legal and financial advisors to explore options that best support your goals—today and for the future.
Bequest
Including the IFMA Foundation in your will or trust is an effortless way to create a lasting impact. You can designate a specific amount, a percentage of your estate, or another provision that reflects your wishes. Unrestricted bequests are particularly valuable as they give us flexibility to direct funds to the area of greatest need at the time. Click here for sample language.
Retirement Plan Assets
Retirement accounts, such as IRAs, 401(k)s, and 403(b)s, can be subject to double taxation—ordinary income tax and estate tax—when passed on to heirs. By designating the IFMA Foundation as the beneficiary of your retirement plan assets, you can avoid these taxes, leaving more for your loved ones.
If you are 70½ or older, you can also make direct gifts (up to $100,000 annually) to the Foundation from your qualified retirement plan as part of your required minimum distribution. This allows you to avoid income tax on the gifted amount. While these gifts do not qualify for a charitable deduction, they offer a unique opportunity to support our work while fulfilling your distribution requirements.
Life Insurance
You can make a significant gift to the Foundation by donating a paid-up life insurance policy. By naming us as the policy’s owner, you will be eligible for an income tax deduction based on the policy’s value. Alternatively, you can retain ownership of the policy while naming the Foundation as the beneficiary, allowing you flexibility to make changes in the future if needed.
Appreciated Securities
Donating appreciated securities that you have held for more than a year offers significant tax advantages. Not only may you be eligible for a charitable income tax deduction based on the full fair market value of the securities, but you may also avoid capital gains taxes on the appreciation. Donor Advised Funds (DAFs)
A Donor Advised Fund (DAF) is an excellent option for combining favorable tax benefits with the flexibility to support the IFMA Foundation and other causes close to your heart. When you establish a DAF through a community foundation or financial services provider, you can make annual gifts to the Foundation while retaining the ability to adjust your giving strategy over time. DAFs are also a great tool for legacy planning, allowing you to designate the Foundation as a principal beneficiary upon the fund’s termination.
